Shopping Trip: Walgreens

I made a quick stop at Walgreens yesterday - and I seriously think I had the best Walgreens cashier ever!

I did two separate transactions:

Transaction #1
I bought a bonus-size bottle of Herbal Essence hair spray. It was on sale for $3 and I used my free product coupon. I just paid the tax ($.17) and then received a $1 Register Reward, too!

Transaction #2
2 Dry Idea antiperspirant/deodorant, B1G1 free (should have been 2/$4.99)
4 Expo dry erase marker 2 packs, all FREE (on sale for .99 ea.; used $2/2 coupons)
2 Carmex, FREE and then some!

Spent $3.97 total at Walgreens.

The Carmex in transaction #2 was seriously crazy! Let me see if I can explain:
  1. The cashier says to me, "Oh! I noticed something earlier in the ad - a major typo I think. I'm going to try something for you now!" (She was seriously so excited!) I say, "Sure, go right ahead."
  2. She scans the .99 ad coupon (from the regular ad) and the B1G1 free ad coupon (from the "supplemental ad"). Amazingly, both coupons scan! One coupon removed $1.60 and the other coupon removed $1.89.
  3. At this point, I've gotten both tubes of Carmex for just $0.09!
  4. So then I say, "Well, I guess I don't need these two $.35 off coupons then."
  5. Her response? "Oh, they'll still work! Let me have them!"
  6. (I think my jaw about hit the floor then. Walgreens never works this well for me!)
  7. So basically, I got $.61 in overage with those coupons - which was nice since I was buying the deodorant.
  8. I also used my $1 Register Reward from transaction #1, which reduced my out of pocket even further. I thanked my wonderful cashier profusely and left Walgreens feeling pretty good about myself! :)
Now, while this deal worked beautifully for me, I won't promise it will work like this for you. I would have never thought to ask the cashier to try both coupons - I gave her the B1G1 free coupon since that was the better deal. If you're stopping by, it could be worth a shot, but don't come after me if it fails! :)

*And on a side note, the Mauston Walgreens has tons of the 2 ct. packages of Expo markers. I am planning to donate mine to school - teachers always need dry erase markers! There's a new $2/2 coupon available now, too.

  1. Yeah it is a good deals and it only works right now if your area got the wrap around ad. Basically check your zipcode at Walgreens.com and if you see two adds that means your area got it.
