Super Savings Saturday 4/2

Since this week was the last week of the month, I only had a small amount grocery & household money left to work with. I had to be in La Crosse on Monday, so I took that opportunity to finish out the month's grocery shopping.

Target
(6) Yoplait yogurt .50 each
(1) Vaseline fragrance-free lotion, 10 oz. 1.99 (reg. price 2.99, used 1.00/1 coupon from sample)
(1) Tums Ultra, 75 ct. 1.69 (on sale for 3.69, used 1.00/1 Target coupon PLUS 1.00/1 printable!)
Total: 7.00
*I also purchased Up & Up cetirizine (Zyrtec). I got a bottle of 180 pills on sale for $32.49, so 0.18 per pill. With allergy season right around the corner, I knew we would need this soon! I am pulling that out of the "Medical" section of the budget, since we had no medical expenses in March.

Aldi
(1) Tortilla chips 1.19
(1) Napkins, 250 ct. 1.49
(1) Frozen OJ 1.09
(1) Hamburger buns .79
(1) Shredded cheddar cheese, 16 oz. 2.99
(2) fresh (!) strawberries 1.19 each
(1) Sugar, 5 lbs. 2.44
Total: 12.45

Burnstad's
Chicken, 3 lbs. 4.99
(3) Soda, 6 pk. bottles, 5.00 total
Total: 5.24 OOP (I had a $5 gift card from a few weeks ago when I was overcharged. Burnstad's was very quick to make that situation right!)

Kwik Trip
Bananas 0.81
Loaf of bread 1.29
Total: 2.10

Amazon.com
I also made 2 purchases on Amazon but I used a gift certificate (from taking surveys) for those!

Total spending for the week: 26.79
Total spending for March: 199.39 (out of $200 allocated - I almost couldn't have gotten any closer!)

  1. I ended up going shopping the last day of March to use tons of coupons that were going to expire / we were out of everything as I have only been buying free or very cheap stuff since November so I needed to restock I was going to wait until April one but decided to go ahead and go on the last day of March so not sure if that blew my March budget or if I should just count it towards April either way I spent $205 !!!!
So now I need to make this last until April 15th with just one week purchase of new produce and milk. You have done so great ! It is so encouraging reading what other folks are doing.

  2. Anonymous - I had a tough month, too. I overspent in the middle, which is why I had so little left last week!

I have really been noticing grocery prices rising by us, but I can't afford to raise the budget. Money is tighter all around, as I'm sure it is for you. Any extra money we have now goes for gas (yikes!) or paying down student loans.

I think it's great that you are keeping with a budget - that's the key to saving money!
