Super Savings Saturday 7/7


We did some stock-up shopping this week.

Earlier in the week, I stopped at Walgreens, Dollar General, and Aldi (while we were out of town). Read all the details in this post.
Spent $16.50.

Then on Friday, we ran a few errands in Tomah after an appointment:

Aldi - $34.59. (mostly pantry stock-up items)

Walmart - $34.13. (mostly vitamins and ant bait traps)

Kwik Trip - about $4.25. (milk, OJ, and bread)

Total spending this week: $89.47.
Total spending in July: $89.47.

Super Savings Saturday 6/30


We did a bit of shopping this week to wrap up the month of June.

Earlier in the week, I made a quick run to Festival, plus a few stops elsewhere. Read the details in this post.
Spent $36.52.

We also grabbed a few items at Burnstad's on Friday night after dinner:

4 Yoplait Light yogurt cups, $0.50 each
Brat buns, $2.50
2 Wheat Thins, $2.50 each

Spent $12.49.

Total spending this week: $49.01.
Total spending in June: $218.80.

*My cash-only challenge went very well! We spent less than I had budgeted, which is awesome. At this point, I'm going to continue using cash for my grocery money each month.

Super Savings Saturday 6/23


I didn't do much shopping this week - and I still have a good chunk of my grocery cash left for the month!

Throughout the week, we also bought:

2 Melatonin and sandwich bags at Dollar General, $4.75 (used B1G1 free Rexall coupon)
Ground beef at Grocery Depot, $7.83 (about 3 lbs.)

Total spending this week: $32.36.

Super Savings Saturday 6/16


I am continuing my "cash-only" challenge this month and it's still going well. We are well below budget at this point in time, which is awesome!

We were out of town earlier this week and I had the opportunity to shop at a few stores at which I normally don't shop. I even got $10 free to spend at the grocery store!

I stopped at two different Target stores in the Milwaukee area and found several great deals. You can read the details in this post.
Spent $6.24 total.


I also stopped at Aldi and Metro Market (a Copps' affiliate) while we were gone. At Metro Market, I found a coupon in the parking lot for $10 off a $10 purchase, so I got free groceries! Read about that shopping in this post.
Spent $20.51 total.

On Friday, we picked up a few items at Festival:

*I also picked up my free 8x10 print at Walgreens! It was absolutely free - I didn't even pay tax.

Super Savings Saturday 6/9: Taking the cash-only plunge!


As I mentioned a few days ago, I am taking the "cash-only plunge" for the month of June for groceries, household and health & beauty items. After only a week, I haven't formed too much of an opinion yet. However, I will say that I do think using only cash forces me to take a second look at my purchases! At the end of June, I will post my thoughts on my cash-only challenge.

Last weekend, we grabbed a few items at Target. And on Tuesday, I ran a few quick errands in Mauston. Read the details in this post.

Super Savings Saturday 5/26


I found a number of great deals at the Bent and Dent store on Tuesday, plus a few deals at Walgreens and Festival. Read all the details in this post.

On Wednesday night, I went to Tomah for a few errands.


At Dollar General and Walmart, I hit up the clearance sales! Plus I picked up some bacon at Burnstad's. Read the details in this post.

I also stocked up on a few essentials at Aldi. Read the details in this post.
Spent $36.02.

And we spent $9.16 at Walmart (yogurt + juice) last weekend and $2.50 on cards this week (graduation).

Total spending this week: $93.62.
Total spending in May: $277.49.

Our spending is out of control this month! Perhaps it's time to try the cash system for groceries?

Super Savings Saturday 5/12


This week, we stocked the pantry, freezer and refrigerator for May! This means that I should not have to shop much for the next few weeks; I'll simply "fill in" by picking up a few items here and there.

We went to Walmart and Aldi last Saturday and grabbed many great deals (especially on produce at Aldi!).
Spent 77.07.

I also picked up a half gallon bag of milk for $0.99 at Kwik Trip this week.

I kept shopping to a minimum this week as we were out of town last weekend and I lacked the energy for a big stock-up trip. I did make a quick run to Festival just to grab a few essentials.

Super Savings Saturday 4/21


On Wednesday, I ran several errands in Mauston and picked up a variety of items. I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, but eventually, I finished everything!

We did go shopping at Target on Friday (and got some awesome deals!), but I still need to go through those receipts and sort everything out, so I'll include that trip with next week's Super Savings Saturday post.

We had a funeral this week, so we headed to Rapids to run a few errands. We found a great deal on chicken at Copps, so now I think we are set on meat for the remainder of April.

I also picked up five pounds of salted butter at Kwik Trip for $1.69/lb. I knew I had to stock up at that price!

This week started the shopping for April. We're fairly well stocked on groceries, but I'll still need to grab a few more things throughout the month.


We went to Festival last Saturday (mostly for Easter preparations) and bought quite a bit (which is unusual!). Read the details in this post.

While I was in town on Monday, I snagged several great deals at Dollar General. I also grabbed a few essentials at Kwik Trip on Tuesday.

I also picked up tortilla chips and bananas at Kwik Trip on Friday; I spent about $2.50. (And no, we won't be eating those two items together!)

Earlier this week, I got a dozen eggs for $0.75 (these were farm eggs, sold at the "bent and dent" store). And I picked up a half gallon bag of milk on Friday for $1.44 at Kwik Trip.

Super Savings Saturday 3/10: Meat stock-up

Last weekend, I headed to Tomah to do a large stock-up trip for the month of March. This is how my freezer looked like after that trip:


Yes, it was quite full! Thankfully, this will keep up well-stocked for the month.

{For the record, we do not have a deep freeze or extra freezer - we only have an over-the-fridge freezer in our kitchen. There's simply no room in our condo. I certainly do hope to have one in the future!}

I also picked up bananas at Kwik Trip on Thursday:
Fresh bananas, $1.10 ($0.38/lb.)
Over-ripe bananas, $0.32 ($0.25/lb.) - These went straight in the freezer to be used in banana bread/muffins.

Total spending this week: $39.67.
Total spending in February: $192.31 (out of $200 allocated).

This was a really tight month budget-wise. It was tough to manage, but I'm so glad we made it! We are pumped for any extra money we can find in the budget now since we are agressively paying off student loans.

I didn't do much shopping this week - we don't have a lot of grocery/household budget money left, so my goal was to spend very little this week.


I picked up just two items in Mauston on Tuesday - toilet paper and cornmeal (lovely combination, right?!).

The Target was a Super Target and the Aldi was a "Food Market," so we were so overwhelmed in both stores! Copps was more my size. ;)

Super Savings Saturday 2/11

It's going to look like I bought a lot this week, but really, it just looks like that because I stopped at so many different stores. It's just a part of how I shop!


I made several stops in Mauston on Wednesday. Also included in that post is what we picked up while out of town last weekend.

*I was so excited to find the YTC body butter containers and Revitalens boxes! Both deals went through without a hitch. We grabbed the package of banker's boxes because that's a great price and those are perfect for moving books (not that we have a move planned now, though!). Moves are just inevitable for us, though. :)
