My 2013 Goals

After reviewing my goals for 2012, I've worked out a list of goals for 2013.

My goals this year will be more broad this year, as we are expecting a baby in February - and I already know how much that one event is going to change our lives!

However, I still want to have purpose and intentionality in my life, despite the major life changes, so I'm sticking with goal-setting, albeit flexible goals!

Personal Goals

Read 41 books. I will track my progress on my Pinterest board and will share some reviews here on the blog.

Begin exercising again - after the baby arrives!

Edit the LLMA newsletter. This goes out 3-4 times per year.

Create monthly and weekly goals regularly. I really enjoyed doing this during 2012. For 2013, I purchased the Time Keeper planner and it has space for me to keep my goals right in it.

Continue crocheting. I am planning to work on some scarves and other small projects throughout 2013. I even have an idea for our daughter's first Christmas already!

I aim for better organization than this! :)

Home Management Goals

Maintain the monthly budget using my Excel spreadsheets.

Keep receipts organized and update tax spreadsheet monthly.

Plan our dinner menu on a monthly basis. This is such a lifesaver for me - I don't know what I would do without it!

Deep clean our home during the summer.

Wahl Color Pro hair clipper kit $17 shipped!

The Wahl Color Pro hair clipper kit is on sale for $17 today on Target.com! Shipping is free.

This hair clipper comes with 20 color-coded pieces to help you remember which one to use on which person - how nifty!

We don't have a Wahl clipper, but I have heard very good things about this brand. I cut my husband's hair at home and we save SO much money doing that!

*The same clipper set is priced at $22 on Amazon right now (although I think that price is slightly inflated).

December Goals Update

Here's a look at how I did with my goals in December. You can also check out my final updates on my 2012 yearly goals, my 2012 Do-It-Yourself projects, and my 2012 reading list!

You can also take a look at my reading list for 2013.

Personal Goals
Read the last seven books on
my 2012 Reading List. Whatever books I am not able to read this month will roll over into my 2013 Reading List.

  1. Pregnancy and Childbirth Secrets
  2. You Lost Me
  3. Real Food for Mother and Baby
  4. Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
  5. Courageous
  6. Natural Hospital Birth
  7. The Everything Breastfeeding Book

Complete my Do-It-Yourself project. I've altered this and will focus on making Christmas cookies instead. Here are some of the cookies I want to make (and I am certain that more will be added to the list!): {We had so much fun with cookie-making this year! Our favorite was definitely the GF Peanut Blossoms...tasted exactly like the "real" thing!!}
  1. Gluten Free Peanut Butter Blossoms (I will use Better Batter flour.) {The gluten free version was so good that we never made "regular" ones!}
  2. Regular Peanut Butter Blossoms
  3. Cookie Dough Truffles (I made these last year with Better Batter and they were awesome!)
  4. Gluten Free Cake Pops
  5. Gluten Free Soft Frosted Sugar Cookies
  6. Grandma's Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies
  7. Plus Chocolate-Covered Pretzels (both regular and gluten free)

Make and freeze applesauce.

Label 2013 folders and put them in the filing cabinet.

Host Christmas (several times!).

Begin working on the Winter LLMA newsletter.

Continue
crocheting Baby Girl's blanket. {It's almost done! I'm just working on the border now.}

Create my 2013 Reading List.

Blog Goals
Post an update at the end of the month for my 2012 reading.

Post an update at the end of the month for my 2012 DIY projects.

Review Dial holiday soap for Purex insiders.
{Check out my review in this post; we loved this soap!}

Work on my Buy Price spreadsheet. Look for updated buy prices during the month of January! {I am continuing to work on this and plan to start the series on January 7.}

2012 Yearly Goals Update + some final thoughts

With the end of 2012 rapidly approaching, it's time to take a look at my goals for the past year to see what I accomplished!

When 2012 started, I created a list of goals I had for the entire year. After the summer, I updated my goals and created a list of goals for the remainder of the year.

Here is a look at how I did with my original list:

Personal
  • Read 36 books in 2012 = three per month. {I read 43 books in 2012!}
  • Completely reorganize our filing cabinet. I intend to spend at least one hour per week on this (during an average week).
  • Complete one Do-It-Yourself project per month. {I did well with this for the first half of the year, but morning sickness messed with my summer and these intentions fizzled out.}
  • Exercise regularly - at least three times per week. We just bought a Nordic Track treadmill, so I will be working on creating some workout routines that work best for me. {I did well with this until I got pregnant...and now I'm not able to stand or walk for long periods of time.}
  • Create monthly goals (a new concept, but similar to my weekly goals) for my personal life.
  • Continue creating weekly goals.
Blog
Marriage and Family
And here is a look at what I accomplished during the last four months of the year:
  1. Read 15 more books, for a total of 44 books in 2012 (stay tuned). {I came very close...I read 43 books throughout the year!}
  2. Complete four remaining Do-It-Yourself projects (stay tuned).
  3. Exercise 3-4 days per week (walk on treadmill, yoga stretching).
  4. Finish intensive cleaning (in September). {Thankfully, I did finish this!}
  5. Finish my crochet washcloth. {I finished my washcloth and have since nearly finished a baby blanket for our baby girl!}
  6. Organize our "childhood memories" in tote boxes. {Yes, this is done!}
  7. Put together tax spreadsheet and keep it updated. {This is nearly ready to print...we need to be ready early this year since the baby is due in February!}
  8. Create monthly and weekly goals.

Some thoughts about what I learned this year about myself and goal-setting:
  • Goal-setting as a whole has made a huge difference in my life! I enjoy having something to work toward and felt like I was able to accomplish so much more this year because I was being intentional with my time.
  • In some areas, I was overly-ambitious, but overall, I did well sticking with my goals. For example, I wasn't able to stick with the Do-It-Yourself projects, but I really enjoyed the projects that I did try. I would have never learned to crochet if I hadn't made that one of my goals - and now I've made a baby blanket!
  • My most favorite goal was my goal to read 36 books (later upped to 44 because I was doing so well!)! I even surprised myself at how many books I was able to read. I have always loved to read and it was so fun to create a list and follow that throughout the year. Because of how much I enjoyed it, I have already created a list for 2013 and am so excited to dive in!
  • I'll be creating more broad yearly goals for 2013. We are expecting a baby in February and I know that one event is going to change our lives dramatically! Look for my 2013 Yearly Goals tomorrow, December 31.

ibotta app {now released for Android + available for iPhone!}

I have an Android phone, so this one caught my attention recently. Thanks to My Frugal Adventures and Totally Target for all of the information!

There is a new smartphone app available now called ibotta. This app is totally free and is available to iPhone users - and now to Android users!

Instead of going to your phone's app store to download it, you will want to sign up through this link as it will give you a $5 bonus after you complete your first offer.

Here's how ibotta works:
  • ibotta offers rebates on items that you likely purchase on a regular basis, like Simply Orange juice, Advil, Mio, etc.
  • A variety of offers are available and you will be able to see them in your account after you register. New offers will pop up often, too! Be sure to scroll through all the pages.
  • After you buy an item for which you have an offer, you can take a picture of your receipt and submit it. You will want to make sure that you are purchasing the right item (they offer a barcode scanner to help with this!).
  • The rebate money will be deposited directly into your account with ibotta (receipt verification usually takes 2-24 hours).
  • You can redeem your rebate money once you reach $5. You are able to redeem into any Paypal account OR you can donate to any school in America or the United Way.
There are 24 major retailers currently participating in ibotta, including:
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • CVS
  • Kroger
  • Walgreens
  • Pick n Save
  • and lots more!
I signed up this afternoon and the entire process took me less than five minutes! Head on over to sign up now so you can get that $5 bonus!
